Dear Howard,
I thought maybe you’d write, but being as you haven’t maybe you’d like to hear from one of the kids anyway.
Beryle, Pee Wee, and I walked over to Benton about 6:30. We got back about a half hour ago, and haven’t a thing to do. It really seems funny not seeing your car around. Your mother had it up here the other night, though. Pee Wee got a letter from Lenny tonight and he says he’s being sent to Brazil. I got a letter from a kid that he gave my address to. Lenny says he’s from Chicago.
Well, Joan and I both lived through Commencement. I nearly wore the sidewalk out by the gym, though. The kids said that with every line they were afraid to look, because they thought I was going to forget it. Joan did forget hers, and got rather mixed up. She felt rather badly about it, but Emmett seemed to think she should have had notes. Not bragging – but Mr. Eales said I had a good voice and he’d have liked to had me for declaim. I should have, after all of the exercise I’ve given it.
Joan, Pee Wee, and I went to Midway Sun. night with Berg. New Digging is mild compared to that. Pete Temperly was at the N.D. dance Thurs. night and some one stole some kind of a light from his car and Fritz Manke’s radio. Pete found out who did it – he says they are both friends of his and he thinks a lot of them. He says they live on farms near N.D. It seems as though they tried to sell it, and told the guy they bought it off someone with a ’36 Ford.
Kenny Mc. Dougal, Wally Siglin, and Buck Bennett were in a wreck last night. Kenny’s car can’t be fixed, but they weren’t hurt badly. Dick Burrus left for the Navy today. I wonder what Sheffeu will do now. They were really cutting the rug last night. I’m practicing but I don’t think I’ll ever get that good. I guess it is too much to hope for.
I think L’mine will play Seymour Sun. at Etna. They are getting in the league. I hope you appreciate these pictures Beryle is sending. They say you can tell what you look like by a picture. You can tell as well what can murder.
I expect from nothing. Don’t forget to write when you get time. Hope you can read my scribbling.
Love,
Killer
