Dear Ma,

I didn’t get any letter from you today but did get one from Beryle as that wasn’t bad. Nobody got much mail today. That is the way it goes. A lot one day an a few the next. Went out an played football for awhile tonight an got a different kind of exercise. Sure made me feel better. I didn’t do much today but lay around until Francis and a kid from Darlington came up. He is one of the fellows that went through boot with us. He said that he had a letter from his wife an she said that another kid that was in our company wrote back an said that they were a long ways from here. I didn’t say just where though. I really think we were lucky to stay here an I am plenty satisfied. One thing I hate about the service is an that is you just make some real fine friends an then you are parted.

I guess by know you know a little more about the settlement. If you keep running around so much you will have to get some more gas. Well ma don’t much more to write about tonight so I will close.

Love
Howard
