Dear Ma,
Just finished writing to Beryle so I will write you a few lines. Went down to see Francis this morning and spent the day with him. ate dinner down where he works and it really was good. Had chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, salad, pies, ice cream, lemonade and several other things. Really enjoyed it for as you always said it gets tiresome eating your own cooking all the time. After dinner we went and saw a couple of fellows that went through boot with us and we had a nice visit. Another fellow that went through boot with us moved in where I am at today so I have somebody I know in a way now.
I got a letter from you, Beryle and a birthday card from Beryle. I also got another Shullsburg paper but it was a week older than the one I got yesterday.
You sure are busy with all the showers and packing all the boxes for overseas. It will be too bad if May loses her calves for they are worth quite a bit of money now. I know that there aren’t many fences over there for I saw that when I was hunting and fishing.
Guess Jim and Eleanor will be satisfied when they got a girl. Are luckier than some people that way.
You must be milking two cows if you have a can of milk every other day. Guess that it is still a good price.
Sure is nice that Walter Calvert is going over so good at school. Guess he understands kids and is able to get there respect.
Haven’t recieved any of my packages yet but might before my birthday. It won’t be long before I will be twenty four.
Well ma I don’t know much more to write now so will close.
Love
Howard
