Dear Ma,
Have a little time off this afternoon so I will start a few lines to you. Got a letter from you and one from Mrs Bennett this noon. Mrs Bennett really writes a nice letter an I enjoy getting them. She said that they like it well in Waterloo and aren’t a bit sorry for moving there. She said that Pauline is engaged to a sailor that she met while she was in Chicago. He had been there during Christmas an she seemed to think he was alright. That was the first time they had met him. Paul has been seeing a lot of action lately, but she didn’t seem to concerned about him.
It usually takes me about three weeks to get the Pick and Dad. Some of them have come in two weeks. Can’t depend on when they are coming. Have only got about half of my Christmas candy left now. Don’t take long to get rid of anything here. The telephone comes in handy when you can’t go down it. Guess that Junior has his usual winter cold. He might just as well use the car during the winter for you aren’t able to drive it with so much snow and they really need something warm to ride in with the kids. A lot better for the car than standing anyway. I imagine that it is a lot nicer for you with school starting a half hour later. Mr Calvert seems to have some very good opinions to me. So Billy is taking her first eggs to town. Will be some more money to sell away in the mold pile.
Here it is right now ma and I didn’t get any more mail except two papers. Neither one had any news in them. The war news is looking a lot better now than it did. Still has a long way to go though. An awful tired tonight so I will close.
Love
Howard
