Dear Ma,
Got a letter from you this moon so I will write you a few lines this afternoon while I am off. I also got a letter from Sonny Bennett the first one I have gotten from him for quite awhile.
It sure seems like you are having March weather now with it freezing at night. Hope it doesn’t do any serious damage.
May seems to have her hands full with Seah being sick and Stanley gone to the army. It’s to bad she had to get sick right at this time.
Was surprised to hear that Seahys have another baby for I didn’t even know they were expecting. I think the reason that Bob thought Pat and I are having such an easy time of it is that it is the difference between the Army & Navy. The reason Pat could do like he did is that he is in a position to do it. I know Bob wouldn’t have a whole lot to do cooking for a hundred and fifty men but they have to do other work besides. We have two thousand to cook for so we do have quite a few to prepare things for. It’s a lot different cooking for officers than it is to enlisted men too.
We have lots of cans to open for we seldom have any fresh vegetables. I have opened about three hundred small cans myself today. The galley is divided into the ranges and coppers and I work on the coppers now. I did work on the ranges until about a month ago. The ranges cook all the meat and potatoes while we cook all the vegetables, soups and make the salads. The coppers are really the easiest for you don’t have much to do during the meal time.
Stanley will like it alright after a bit for a person does have a lot of fun and sees a lot of interesting things.
Wilbur Perkins must of been pretty lucky to get out alive. Must be tough on a fellow to have all there buddies killed that way.
The fellows over here don’t seem to think of doing any celebrating in regard to the German war. They all want it to end as soon as possible, but think it will be quite a while before this war will be over.
Well ma I have finished work now and didn’t get any more mail so I will close for tonight.
