Dear Ma,
Just finished work an am I ever tired. The evening meal has always been the big one, but lately it has gotten to be that none of them are easy.
Got a letter from you and Virginia today. There hasn’t been much mail coming through lately, but I have been pretty lucky at getting mine.
Think maybe I do stoop over a little now for there is so much bending over to do at this kind of work. It really is hard work compared to the other rates in the Navy.
Wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Buck Rowe was stuck in the army for quite awhile now. Those guys that stayed out so long really should be the ones in the army of occupation.
Its to bad Persey has such a bad heart an isn’t able to work like he wants. It’s bad enough to have a bad heart when a person gets old. Moon really would be a good fellow to have in the navy. I always thought people were equal in here but they aren’t. Moon would get by just the same in here as he does now. In the army or Marines it might be different.
I was wondering if you had ever gotten any of our tailing money. Would like to have gotten my share of the place while it was a good price. Don’t look as if it will ever get settled up.
That atomic bomb was as big a surprise to me as it was to everybody else. The big thing I meant never had to take place an it sure saved a lot of lives.
I guess everybody will be going now that gas rationing is lifted. Yesterday in town cars were lined up getting gas.
The end of the war wasn’t quite as big a surprise to me as it was to some people. Just couldn’t believe something I had heard before was all.
Will answer Dillys letter tomorrow when I have more time. Will close now an write a few lines to Beryle.
Love
Howard
