August 30

Dear Ma

Just came back from over seeing the other boys. Sure is nice to be able to see them once in awhile, but I have already made a good friend here. He is from Oregon on a farm. He’s an awful nice kid. Got three letters today. One from you and two from Beryle. One of the girls had been transferred from Shoemaker.

I finally have gotten my right address. It is the one I have been using the last night or so. Have the papers changed to this for I am anxious to get them. Payday comes up the fifth of next month! Haven’t taken any hurt for I have ten dollars left.

Stanley must be getting to be quite a worker putting in such long hours. Might be a good idea if he got interested in mechanical work then he could keep the car going.

I guess by the time this letter reaches you school will be started or ready to start. But Rena May has grown a lot this summer. She sure has been fortunate in raising so many of her chickens. I know right well you wouldn’t sell any of them.

Was kind of surprised at Gertrude joining the Cadet Nurses Corp. Maybe one of the girls in that family will turn out to amount to something yet.

How much are they paying on your milk bonus checks now? Guess you should get your allotment check anytime now.

Well ma guess I will close for now and get ready for supper. I am pretty hungry for I missed out on dinner. Are having copper beef steak for supper. One thing I always don’t know what they are going to have to eat.

Love
Howard
