Dear Ma,
Didn’t get to write to you yesterday for it was moving day on a place now that I guess I got settled for a little while. I can call home and I am not with anybody that I know but I have made some new friends so I am all right. I am not very far from where Francis is so I can get to see him once in awhile. He is supposed to start to drive truck, I think he has got a pretty good setup out of it. You will never guess what I am learning to be. Francis and I both signed up for cooks, but I was the only one that got it.
I figured it was one place I could get enough to eat. I am in a brand new barracks, and you should see the soft bunks I have to sleep in. The place we are suppose to work is where officers eat but it hasn’t opened up yet. Don’t know how long it will be. Sure was glad to get stationed here. Didn’t get my mail yesterday, but got it today and got four letters. Two from Beryle, yours and one from Donald Pearley. Should start to get letters straight from home before too long. I have a new address now so you can have the papers changed to it. It was to be about Uncle John but I had been expecting it.
Guess they would hold another Mullen reunion at his funeral. It’s nice that charoys have been hearing from the boys lately. I have seen a lot of Marines that have come back and they say it is pretty bad. Was talking to one Marine that had been over twenty nine months and was going back again. He sure hated to go and I didn’t blame him.
Wish you would have the kids pictures taken and sent to me. As a matter of fact the whole family. Donald Pearley said that they got word that Jimmy Redfern had been wounded. He has been over there in battle for a long time. Maybe I will tell Dilly that I get her a grass skirt sometime. I know I can get them but don’t know whether I can send it.
What did Nellie have to say about Everetts girl getting married. Hope mind don’t do that. Not worried about it anyway.
Well ma guess I will close for now and get ready for supper.
Love,
Howard
