Dear Ma,

It’s a nice sunny day here in California again today. That’s one thing it is the same here every day. Today is Sunday and it is just the same as any day here. Worked in the mess hall this morning and it means put in my time for all I did was help sweep the floor. Could have had liberty until noon tomorrow if I wanted, but I don’t have any desire to go out. Francis Garvey and Burch went to Oakland, and I think the other Harveys went. Wanted to stay with the fellows that are shipping out tomorrow. Sure hate to see Miller go.

Francis Garvey has gotten two letters so far so I should get one before long. They say they get the mail mixed up here quite a bit. Sure met a nice fellow here in the barracks. His name is Peterson and he is around thirty years old. He is married and has a little girl fifteen months old. He has been here in this camp for seven months now. Was talking to a fellow last night and he said he hadn’t had any pay from Uncle Sam for a year and didn’t get any for another four months. He owed it all in fines for going over the hill. The Marines guard the prisoners at night and I guess they treat them pretty rough. The sailors and

Marines don’t get along at all. How did my pictures come out? Sure hope they are good. Well ma I guess I will close for now. Will try and drop Junior a few lines tonight.

Love,
Howard

Haven’t got any air mail stamps so I will have to send this free.
