U. S. NAVAL RECEIVING BARRACKS SHOEMAKER, CALIFORNIA

July 13, 1944

Dear Ma,

Finished a hard mornings work and now have time off until three o’clock tomorrow. Did some washing and am going to write two letters and then lay around for a while.

It looks as if I am going to be posted from my bed partner finally. He and all the rest of the fellows in my company, except the Wisconsin boys, got their shipping orders. They are suppose to leave Monday. I sure hate to see him go. Maybe I will get to stay with some of the local fellows this way.

The weather here has been the same every day so a person can’t talk much about it. Had a big ball game here this afternoon. It was the opening of the new ball field and they had the band there. The battalion I am in got beat by the score of 3-1. It must of been a good game.

How is the weather back home now. Is it still nice like it was when I was home or is it raining again. I could of went out on liberty tonight, but I don’t feel like it. About the only thing a person can do is look the country over. They have everything a person wants here. Well ma I guess I will close for today.

Love,
Howard
