SERVICE SCHOOL U.S. NAVAL TRAINING CENTER GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS

June 22, 1944

Dear Ma,

Don’t feel much like writing tonight but will drop you a few lines. We have drilled a lot today and were on our feet quite a bit so I am pretty tired. They sure are giving us some good training now. It’s about time they gave us something.

We had another bad storm here last night and it has been damp all day. It has been real sultry.

Got your letter, two from Boyle and one from Donald Pescely today. I really have been lucky at getting mail I think.

Can’t get much writing done tonight for everybody coming around visiting. They must think it is visitors night.

We get our last shot tomorrow. Sure am glad they are about over. Never hurt much but I just hated the thoughts of it.

I suppose Willy has a pretty good garden.

One fellow sure had tough luck today. He lost $48 and it looks like it is gone for good. Too bad for he is a swell fellow.

Well ma I believe I will close for tonight.

Love,
Howard
