Dear Ma,

Just finished eating supper and will try and write you a few lines before they find something for me to do. Supper wasn’t nothing fancy here tonight, but they had some potato chips that they had made here in the kitchen and they were real good. They must of used bacon grease on them for they had that taste and they were sure good. Didn’t get up in time for breakfast this morning. I sure do like to lay in bed like I use to. Intended to go to Church this morning but I monkeyed around to long.

I got a letter from Beryle this morning and she said she hadn’t had any mail from me for several days. She should of for I have written every day. I have been mailing my letters here at the branch post office by the barracks, but will start mailing them at the main one. The fellows from Milwaukee here in my barracks had the same trouble too. Its pretty hard to handle so much mail so far. I have gotten seven letters from Beryle and five from you. Shall get one from you tomorrow.

You said something about looking Shoemaker up on the map. Don’t think you will find it for they came out in somebody’s pasture and built this camp. Everybody around here calls it ‘Fleet City’.

I did my washing right after dinner today. I have to only had to wear one pair of whites since I have been here. Wear them three or four days and then wash them. While they are drying I have my dungarees on. Don’t have to shave here every day either.

I guess Dillys chickens are a pretty good size now? Don’t have many of those rotten eggs here. Sure was cold here this morning. It stayed cloudy so long it made it all the worst.

Guess you and Dilly will be off touring today! Don’t blame you if you are. Our chief we had in boot Camp is out here on the west Coast some place. He finally got his wish to get out of Great Lakes. One fellow that was in our company at boot was held over when we came on he came in Wednesday. He was the one that was telling us.

Well ma I don’t know any news so I will close for now.

Love
Howard
