July 26, 1944
Dear Ma,
The mail wasn’t any to heavy today, but I got a letter from Beryle as long as I get a letter from one of you I am satisfied. Got a New Testament from the Missionary Society today. Don’t know who they are, but you can thank them for me.
Got a little bad news tonight for Francis and Donnie got there shipping orders today. Sure hate to see them go, but am glad they are going together. There is a small bunch going so maybe they will get on a ship. Hope so. Sure hoped I could stay with Francis. Maybe Wendell and I will be able too. Squirt, Donnie and I had a lot of fun playing pool last night and we are going again tonight. Cheap entertainment for it cost us twenty cents for two hours. The big entertainment last night just about had a serious ending. They had some kind of Comando tactics with a bayonet and an officer got stabbed through the side. They took him to the hospital in an ambulance. It was an accident.
Don’t know much to write about when I don’t get a letter.
Beryle said Donnies wife had some kind of an operation. Caused from the baby. Donnie hadn’t heard from her for four days and couldn’t figure out why she hadn’t written. He felt better after I told him that.
Well ma I guess I will close for tonight.
