Dear Ma,
Here I am on the train trying to drop you a few lines. It sure is a hard job. I still can’t say where I am going for I don’t know. We have spent all day going through Kansas and I don’t care much for it. The farms are very poor looking. An I didn’t see many good wheat fields. Sure seems funny to see them harvesting the grain.

I started this letter last night, but it is now Monday noon. Last night we went through Colorado and today we are riding in Wyoming. We have ridden over some mountain and have seen snow capped peaks in the distant. We have been in the desert a lot today an it sure is forlorn looking. I will tell you more about these things when we get stopped. It is pretty hard writing on the train.

It has been real cool riding for it has been cloudy most of the way. We don’t know where we are going, but I guess it is California. Don’t when this letter will get mailed for we are not suppose to mail them from the train. The eats so far have been real good, but we haven’t got to much of it. Pretty hard to feed a bunch of men on a train.

Well ma I guess that I will close for now.

Love,
Howard
