Dear Ma,
Got your letter today and was glad to hear that you got home alright. Don’t have to worry much about those things when you have Junior along. He sure is hardy.
We had a real bad storm here Sunday and we had to all get out in our bare feet and sweep and bail the water away from the barracks. It got up in the boiler room and they were afraid it would do damage. The big drill hall had four inches of water on the floor.
The company right across from us went out this morning and the new one came in. They were dressed in whites and they little sealife what’s in store for them.
We had sea bag inspection today and it sure was a lot of bunk. Just wasted away the day. Tomorrow we go through the gas chamber. Everything looks easy for tomorrow.
Went up to the canteen tonight and got some ice cream. That’s got to be a regular habit now. Just about have to for the eats get worse every day.
We came pretty close to having some serious trouble here last night. A fellow had seven dollars stolen and the person who took it couldn’t be caught. They were ready to take it over to the Battalion Office when some of the fellows made it up out of their pockets and threw it on the floor. Then they made out they found it and everything was smoothed over. If it had of went to the Battalion Office we would of had to stay another two weeks.
Well ma that is about all the news for tonight so I will close.
Love,
Howard
Hope you have some strawberries when I come home.
