Dear Howard,

It is still very hot here, after a rain it comes out just as hot as ever, the heat and moisture make a bad combination for the people but great for everything else one thing K & M can’t kick up to much dust this Spring. I finished mowing the yard at dark Sat night and we haven’t half mowed again this time it isn’t quite so long and is going to look well.

Mr & Mrs. Booty and Mrs. Barney went to Dubuque today, I don’t envy them their trip it will be very hot going around over there. I think I told you Mrs. Bennett told me some time ago that they might leave New Diggings well they really are going to move to Cedar Rapid, Iowa, they have sold their house to Pete Kiteliner. I wonder what their idea is, Mr. Bennett has a job here and if I was that close to school I would hate to leave but I guess they know their own business best.

Norman said he was coming up, this is his last day, I guess the time has gone fast, I see him go by in the evenings does he have a girl here? Sal said Norman is the only boy who went away that didn’t change, every other boy seemed different, I think in a way he changed, from a boy to a man I couldn’t see one bit of difference in Arthur, he seemed just the same boy that went away I don’t know if Bob will get here in time to see Norman or not. Eru is supposed to get a 2 wks longer soon, if he comes and wants to borrow your car, is it alright? of course he may not.

I cleaned the windows with newspapers this morning and it really does work fine it is the slickest way I ever struck.

Mr. Mel Hodgson and Mrs. Louis O’donnel, both died at Shullsburg they have both been sick a long time, but neither of them are very old, Hodgson’s have had a bad time, with Harry’s wife away in a sanatorium and his Mother has been such a care for so long.

I sent you the Piels + Dad, you should get it this week.

I guess I told you that John Mullen is so poorly and Memorial Day Bender said Henry Mullen had another heart attack, Mellisa is having her vacation and she sent word to Mona that she didn’t know whether she would get up here at all or not. I guess Weston’s death really got him down, he told Harvey he had had lots of things hurt him in his life but never anything like this, it was the worst of all. It is nice that Melissa is there he will have good care.

We are using our last piece of writing paper today, so Dilly can’t write a letter she was tickled pink over her handkerchief-Chief, it was very pretty, the rats took all of her Pet hens eggs so we are going to buy her some little chickens, the hawks have full swing around here with no one to use this shot gun.

I will have to close or we will miss the mail man.

Love
Mom
