I guess it won’t be long now until you will be home. I will be looking for you Anytime after Monday. I was over to Leadmine yesterday afternoon, sent you a package which I hope arrives in good condition. I made the Candy and then thought I would get something over there to finish filling the box up with. But they had so little over there. No Candy bars but had a bunch of very green bananas and I thought by the time they arrived there they would be ripe. I wondered if you ever got any bananas. Afterwards I thought that was a foolish thing to do. If the mail got hung up the bananas would be overripe, hope it turns out alright.
Helen Webster was killed in the tornado. She is Basil Webster’s sister and she married a Mr. Kenna the same as her sister Delva Mc. Kenna but there husbands were no relation. You know where that filling station was just as you turn into Belmont, that man was killed and that Church right there was demolished. They were to have had choir practise there that night but postponed it and I guess those people will consider themselves very fortunate. I heard this morning that they had a terrible one at West Virginia and Penn. last night. 104 people killed. It surely is a stormy summer. I always feel that we are kind of protected from storms here by the timber around. It breaks the wind. My I did wish Ernest had of been here last night. I think all the neighbors around went by to Belmont. When I was out mowing the yard Marion & Roscoe went by with no one in the back seat but Beverly. If he had of been here I would have gone over there in the afternoon and he would have taken our car and Salt Sis & all of us could have gone up together but he got away a little too soon.
Well if I go to Curious I can always go myself. It is nothing to drive to Belmont. Just that they say there is such an immense crowd up there. Buddy was up there yesterday morning and he said there were thousands of cars. They were taking airplane pictures. He said the people were so very low. The last report I heard there were 1 dead and 25 injured. As soon as you come home we will go up.
I just heard Barley Sarff Call up Jummy to come out and get his wrecked Car. He was out here just beyond the Wimshell farm. He didn’t say anything about anyone being hurt, said the car was tipped over in the ditch maybe he had an argument with a K & M truck.
Buddy said he saw Junior and Engel up at Belmont yesterday morning. He said he will have your car all cleaned up for you when you come home also that he will have some radishes for you.
Harry said yesterday morning he has the Check but hasn’t got it cashed yet. Maybe you will get home in time before it gets away again.
Nell just Called up an said, they just got the edge of the storm at Kates, it blew over the windmill and garage. trees, blew away a small building she had hens set in. They found two of the boxes they were set in away up in the field. Damaged the barn ripped shingles off and really mussed things up around there. They considered themselves very lucky though. It was around the someplace that Helen Webster was killed. It struck through there and Red Rock. It seems like we have been having a wild time back here ever since you left.
Fred Poppa wants to know how many men there are at Great Lakes. Can you answer that?
