U.S. Navy
Dear Howie,
Well how do you like the navy? I was a long ways from home before but I am a lot farther now, Trinidad. Its quite a place down here. It rains about three times a day. But when it isn’t raining it’s hotter than hell. I don’t know which is the worst. I don’t know how long I am going to be here. Not to long I guess because I can’t get any mail to this address. I have a pretty good job down here. I have to stand a watch four out of every twelve hours. The chow is best I have had since I have been in the navy. How does the two Donald’s and squirt like the navy? Have you had all your shots yet? Did you get the square metals yet. (ha ha) I bet the boots are pretty hot this time of the year huh.
I got a haircut down here the other day. They cut it as short as they did in boat camp.
You should see some of the native girls down here some of them are really peps. There is about one for every twenty sailors.
Well that’s about all I can think of for now. Do you know what you are going to do yet. I mean what branch of the navy are you going into? Have you had your interview yet. Don’t believe every thing they tell you any how. Well I guess I will close. Say hello to the fellows for me.
Your old pal
Leonard
P.S How do you like the chow?
