Dear Ma,
Didn’t write last night for there wasn’t any mail yesterday. Had a good time yesterday for I went down to see Francis in the morning and Ray and Harold Parrey were there so we had a real nice visit. Kind of a Parrey reunion. Don’t see Harold very often for he is on a ship. Don’t know whether Ray will stay here or not for he hasn’t been assigned yet.
Got a letter from you today and two from Beryle.
It is nice that Junior got off N.F. day on was able to come down. Beryle said they are having a week off at the plant. V-E day here was the quietest day they have had since the start of the war.
Certainly is a surprise to hear that Howard Hancock came to New Diggings to live. Especially right in among the Aldersons.
Your milk payment check wasn’t bad at all. Really comes in handy doesn’t it.
The S.C. in my address stands for ships cook. That rate is the same as a sargent in the army. Base pay is seventy eight dollars an with overseas pay it amounts to about ninety five dollars a month. After my insurance, allotment and war bonds are taken out I will have about sixty dollars a month for myself.
I really think you will see a lot of boys from this way coming home by the end of the year. Really expect it to end sooner than we expect.
Seems funny to hear Stanley say he runs into so many people from Wisconsin. Most of the people I run into are from Texas.
Well ma I don’t know any news so I will close now.
Love
Howard
