Dear Ma,
Here it is a fine night here an I am writing some letters. I just finished writing to Junior and Jaulda. I guess that they would be down yesterday. I just had a shower a few minutes ago an I feel swell.
How is the weather at home? It is quite warm here today an I thought it was going to rain, but it don’t look much like it tonight.
I hear that starting the first of June all the Navy fellows coming in will have to take three months of boot training. I am sure glad I got in before that took place. That would be an awful long time to be tied down for a person really don’t have any freedom. It’s quite a change for a person that was so use to going all the time as I was.
Last night a 110 of our company went to an entertainment that was put on for all the company. It was a musical with a lot of modern tunes and a lot of stars that are in boot training here. The master of Ceremonies was none other than Bob Elson an he sure sounded natural. He gave a little speech and showed how he brodcast a base ball game. I really did enjoyed it. After it was over I was within ten feet of him, but I didn’t have to salute him for he didn’t have his hat on.
I got Dilly’s letter today a one from Beryle. Were you talking to Beryle?
We went to the rifle range this afternoon an had twenty shots out of a rifle. That’s all we had to do this afternoon, but it took until 3:30. We sure got a swell C.O. He looks a lot like Buster Piper does. all of the fellows like him swell.
Well ma I have to polish my shoes, shave, go to the toiliet and write to Buford so I had better close for now.
Love,
Howard
