AIR DEPOT TRAINING STATION STINSON FIELD, TEXAS
San Antonio Tx
October 3, 1943

Dear Howard,

Well this is Sunday night and we are getting some rain. We have had rains for the last couple of weeks. The weather is still plenty hot here so I guess there are about eight months of summer here. They haven’t had any snow down here since 1937. So I guess it will be coming around soon again. Well as for me it doesn’t make much difference because I don’t think we will be here anyway unless things change in a hurry.

We went out to Alamo Stadium last night to see Texas A. & M. & Texas Tech play. It is considered a big event to the people of San Antonio and it must be because they had a crowd of 18,000. A slow drizzle of rain came down all during the first half so it slowed the ground game up quite a bit. Boy this town of San Antonio is really some town.

On Saturday night the place is just swarmed with soldiers from their fields and they really do have a time. I had a letter from Will today. He had been in the hospital for the last two weeks, I guess he really used to have some trouble with his knee. Every time he would try and walk it was bad for him. He said he wished he was coming down to see me but I don’t think it will be for long enough for that. So I bought myself an Auto now, I don’t know what that car gets all the money, I know I don’t get much of any. I am to get rid of my money in two weeks time. We got two shots yesterday and most of the boys got sick but I got two two dollar stuff of course. It is all I can do to get my clothes on. I have got two a week and will be paid next Saturday and that I guess that will be through with them for a while.

I suppose Jake & Clyde Studies knows what Army life is by now. As for those Mains I don’t want any but other. I was out to Ford San Houston the other day. That really is a nice place. I saw two Hospital where Willie and Cheny were stationed. Well I think that’s the news for the day so will say so long for now. Hope to hear from you soon!

A friend,
Willard
