Sept 5, 1944
Dear Ma,
Went down an saw Francis this afternoon an then we went over to the other camp to see the other fellows. When we got over there they were all ready to be shipped out. Wendell had all ready gone so I didn’t get to see him. So had Nelson but I got to see some of the rest of them. Kind of have my doubts about where they were going, but I don’t think they will stay here. Sure hope so. Donnie, Parry and Jim and Leroy were moved into another place, but will stay there only a short time.
My mail has been transfered now an is coming in regular. Today I got mail an Francis hadn’t when we were together, but we tell each other about everything so as long as one of us is getting it it is alright. The other day it was just the other way around. He is sure a fine fellow. One of the letters I got came in three days. That isn’t bad at all. Sure wish I could be home for one of those rains. When it rains here it only lasts about five minutes. Probably get tired of it during the wet season.
I think it is a good idea for me to learn to cook for my future wife. I don’t know too much about it. It isn’t like cooking at home for the food is all prepared an all a person has to do is cook it. I think it is real interesting myself. I know I have did a lot of things so far that I didn’t think possible. One thing about this place is that it’s got to be clean. I have seen quite a few of the people here an I don’t care much for them. Their main idea is to stick the service man for all they can.
Sure hope I am fortunate enough to come back to the states on a plane for that is my big ambition now. You sure are getting to be an old timer going to Scales Mound again. I might well Orthelle and Stanley would get along swell for they are a lot alike a person can’t help but like either one of them.
I bet I will be able to see a big change in Dilly when I get home for she is at the age they grow so fast. I am glad that Harry is getting along good an hope he can get along alright. Our mailing money will be shot now for awhile.
Don’t know just why the insurance should be in your name, but if Boy says so his work is alright.
Sure wish I could be there an see Chick married. But he spends some money for clothes. I still can’t hardly believe it. Wonder if they will start a family.
You can say anything you want in your letters for they aren’t censored.
Well I guess that school will start today. Sure will be a change to be tied down again.
Well ma guess I had better close for now an go pick my clothes in.
