Dear Ma,
Just finished washing a few minutes ago and thought it would be a good plan to write a few lines before supper. Was down to see Frannie today and we went up to see the other fellows. Sure got quite a surprise by running into Kenny McKenna. He came in the other day and was put into the same barracks as Wendell. Don’t think he looks as good as he did when we went to Boot Camp. I haven’t seen Wendell since I left that Camp for every time I go over there he is out on a working detail.
I got three letters today and they were all transferred from Shoemaker. Frankie got three and they all came straight from home. Sure was glad he got them for he hadn’t gotten any mail for quite awhile. The letter I got from you had the picture in it. It isn’t a very good picture of either of you for you are both better looking than that. Sure was glad to get it. Want you to get some taken of Jim, Bob, Donnie and their father and mother. Sure is nice to have those pictures to look at. Guess those ones I took when I was home on leave got lost. Sure made me disgusted.
It was nice of Sula to ask you to walk with her. Didn’t it make some of the Mullens mad. How did Dilly make out as flower girl. Must’ve been hard on them all to have to hurry away right after the funeral. How did Junior ever get down to the funeral home? Sure smart an accomplishment for him.
How did you ever get more gas out of the ration board. They must be getting loose with it. You must be using quite a bit with all the driving you are doing. Sure am glad you are going. Hope that you had a good time at the fair. Imagine Sade took the fair in a couple times. She could play bingo all day and still not be satisfied.
I heard before that Ardale Peacock was in the Air Corp. That family has got scattered around quite a bit. Tom Kregor has been pretty lucky at getting furloughs. I figure the next one I get will be a long one for it will be all over. Wonder what is wrong with Florence Kregor?
Sure am glad that Dilly enjoyed the gum. Wished afterwards that I had of sent her some more and some good candy. Could get plenty of it on the ship, but it seems pretty scarce around here.
You know who lives on the Furnace Lot during the summer don’t you? Won’t be long before the summer will be over back there. Don’t seem like it here though. I sure do like this place. It is the best place I have been since I joined the Navy.
Told you where I was suppose to have went didn’t I? Well ma guess I will close now and go eat supper.
Love
Howard
